Hewlett Portable HP Packard suck
This is a light, sleek, extremely affordable portable hard-drive, perfect for the on-the-go business traveler or even as a desktop storage solution. It’s hard to believe that 1 TB of storage can come in such a slim package for such a low price. The drive fits in my breast pocket.
By comparison, this week I bought a Seagate FreeAgent Go-Flex 1TB external hard-drive that’s priced the same (at least at the discount wholesalers where I shop). However, it’s much bigger, bulkier, and is powered by an adapter rather than getting it’s power from USB port, the way the HP does. On top of that, the Seagate constantly ejects itself, runs hot, and doesn’t power off when the computer shuts down. It has been a pain-in-the-butt from the get-go.
But the HP has been a pleasure from the instant I opened it from the box and plugged it in. It’s fast, slim, easy-to-use, and gentle on the credit card. And since I’m not a tech-head, those are exactly the qualities I am looking for in a storage solution. It’s USB 3.0-ready and it comes with a 2-year, limited warranty. What more do you need to know? I love it and I’m sure you will, too.

I like Multipurpose HP Copy Laser
It’s hard to find a lot to say about paper. But as paper goes, this is good stuff. Clean, crisp and bright, just the right thickness. Perfect for all your printing and copying needs. Oh, and nicer-looking than the paper you steal from work. heh

I had heard many good things about this novel with many recommendations that, as a Harry Potter fan, I would enjoy it. I’m happy to say that it lived up to all of the hype. This is yet another example of a fine writer producing children’s literature that’s not all that childish. Like a really well-done cartoon, there’s plenty in its pages to entertain and amuse children and many references that will go straight over their heads but that adults will enjoy.
The language Colfer uses is really wonderful. He doesn’t try to dumb it down and the vocabulary is colorful and would be a nice challenge for younger children and yet it’s not so academic that it becomes daunting. Colfer uses colorful language and does an excellent job of setting the scene and creating believable and fun dialogue.
The best thing about this book, though, is Colfer’s prodigious imagination. Artemis is a very fun and unexpected character and the Butlers were also a lot of fun, particularly Julia with her penchant for wrestling. Colfer’s twists on traditional folklore and fairytale creatures is very innovative and his take on how the “Mud People” stereotype fairies, elves, and dwarves was a riot. Colfer is very adept at using such satire to great effect and while kids will find it funny, adults will appreciate how Colfer pokes fun at our own world.
Overall, this book is a great deal of fun and I look very forward to reading the next installment.

My home iMac houses all of my music, photos, and movies. My company-issued Windows laptop has all of my schedule and contact info, and lots of documents. I chose to use my iMac as my home-base for my new iPod Touch, mainly for the photos, since I was not aware of any sync-able photo app on Windows. (I didn’t look very hard, either. Copying my music to the laptop is one thing; photos are a different ball game). As expected the iPod integrates seamlessly with my iMac: plug, unplug and go. My entire media collection goes with me wherever I go, including podcasts bluetoothed to my car stereo during my 45-minute commute. I have a few simple puzzle-games to pass the time while I’m waiting in line somewhere. I bought the Kindle reader app too, and have now finished a couple of eBooks (very readable to my 5-decade-old eyes).
Finding bridges to my business stuff has been more challenging. Using Google as an intermediary is not an option because exporting business data to an outside server violates my company’s policy. I have not yet been able to find a way to conveniently sync with my Outlook info and work documents without switching my iPod to be completely based off of my laptop. I can get the data, but it involves multiple steps. Part of the difficulty is that there does not seem to be a standard way of transferring info via USB except for the iTunes/iPod sync. Several apps use http transfer via WiFi, but the company won’t allow iPods or other PDAs on their network (viewed as a security risk).
All tolled, l very much like the iPod’s functionality and look-and-feel. All products have trade-offs and this one shows how cleverness and attention to ease-of-use can turn challenges into coolness.

Plot: Human and vampire fall in love.
Why I Read It: I had to. I’m a librarian and I was doing a Twilight Program.
Why I’m Writing This: Over 3,000 people have strong enough opinions about this book to write reviews about it. What is it about TWILIGHT and the whole “supe” phenomena that generates so much fascination?
The most difficult thing in constructing a romance plot is creating a device that keeps the lovers apart. When there’s love at first glance, and the characters fall and fall heavy for each other, what spins out the tension? You have to hand it to Ms. Meyers (and to Charlaine Harris), that for one of the characters to be human and the other…not, is a great twist. This makes for excellent romance.
But more importantly, is it possible that the recent fascination for vampires and supernaturals is due to our human need to talk about differences in ethnic groups WITHOUT actually talking about ethnic groups? Instead of working with tired racial stereotypes, we can invent new fantasy ones. Vampires? They do tend to be a little Heathcliffish toward the human race, don’t they? (I’m talking about the Bronte hero, not the cartoon animal.) Werewolves? Lovable but not too smart, and awfully apt to get into bar fights. Fairies? Can’t trust ‘em.
So congratulations to Meyers (and Charlaine Harris) for freshening up the vampire/werewolf mythology so beautifully. They’ve altered a tired old Bela Lugosi cliche into sets of romance novels that have enthralled a lot of readers, and that’s a good thing.
