Eoin Colfer has earned my undying admiration: He writes a truly entertaining and unique youth novel. Artemis Fowl is complex, it’s unpredictable, it’s imaginative, it has some gruesome descriptions, and it is really, really good.

Colfer’s focal point is the wanna-be evil boy genius. He’s all genius, but he can’t quite bring himself to be truly evil, and the conflict in character is fascinating to read. Colfer latches on to a real problem that so many youth identify with, sadly–the absentee parents for reasons that even they can’t always help. Although Colfer acknowledges this issue, he doesn’t preach, he just lets it be, and allows Artemis to make his own mess and dig his way out.

Colfer’s imaginative LEP unit and Foaly are great fun to read. I can’t wait to get into the second novel, and I would not hesitate to recommend this series to any upper elementary/middle school aged reader, either in years or at heart. :D Order the series without reserve and enjoy!

Our old scale died and I needed a new one. I looked at the reviews on line and this one was rated well. I observed that EatSmart responded to the complaints in their old model that required pushing the button before stepping on the scale and took it upon themselves to replace the models of the reviewers to give them this newer model that needs only to be stepped on to be activated. Their customer service and responsiveness impressed me.

The response is reproducible and seems reliable. I have not calibrated the scales to verify them, but I believe them.

The other thing that I noticed when I got the scales is that they don’t groan when I stand on them. I’m not heavy, but our old scales always groaned and creaked when I stepped on them. That used to annoy me. These do not make any of those noises.

Thanks.

I’ve used my forerunner 305 for a few weeks–bicycling & hiking. I’ve found it to be very accurate in everyway. One drawback is that it does not calculate calories on stationary devices. On an extra long bike ride I recharged the battery with a Duracell “pocket charger” while riding. A big plus is that you may arrange display windows as you wish–with variations for different exercise modes. After becoming familiar with the device, I’m very pleased & highly recommend it.

G Wireless USB Hawking no mad

I’ve been waiting a couple years now for a wireless manufacture to “get it” and realize there is a market for a USB wi-fi dongle with a detachable antenna. For all the PC Card versions out there with detachable antenna, it’s taken forever for someone to come out with a USB equivalent. Finally, Hawking has, with the HWUG1.

The version I purchased is the Macintosh version (HWUG1A). This comes with a driver from a chip maker called Ralink. Ralink has been doing a public beta with this driver for a few years now, and I was already familiar with it. It’s in pretty solid shape now. I guess you could say it’s ready for prime time. And now that Ralink are actually getting money for it directly from OEMs like Hawking, MacSense and a couple of others, the driver is likely to be maintained and kept in good condition through OS X upgrades. This is an important consideration because, unlike some other nework interfaces, a wi-fi dongle requires a driver apart from anything that comes with the standard Mac OS X install.

The screw on antenna uses the popular and common SMA connector. Hawking sells several omni-directional and directional antennas that are compatible. I have also attached it to a Cantenna which works very well. But lately my favorite solution is to add a Tritium Flatenna reflector. I like the Flatenna because it packs so flat and slips right into my laptop case with my papers. Ironically, the Flatenna doesn’t require a detachable antenna. But I still regard this feature as important.

Overall I’m very pleased with my purchase. I wish it had cost a bit less. I have been able to purchase D-Link wi-fi USB dongles, that I was previously using with the Ralink beta driver, for as little as $20. I paid over $50 for the Hawking. Also, the D-Link comes with a nice, weighted USB stand and extension cable. The Hawking does not. But with the included, foldable antenna, there is less need of a remote stand base.

I bought this to track how many steps I take at work – it has been so fun to use that I’m keeping it in my pocket all the time! It is lightweight and easily fits into a pocket if you don’t want to wear it in its holder. The “safety clip” is a nice feature for taking it on runs. I also like the 7 day memory and the fact that it differentiates between general number of steps taken and “aerobic steps.” Overall, easy to program & start using, easy to carry and accurate as far as I’ve been able to tell!

Watch G Baby Ladies for you

When ordering I read many reviews and figured…for $3 a piece what do I have to lose? I lost signal from my HD DVR is what I lost. Now I am stuck having to go get another cable. This cable only worked for 4 days. While watching a movie the screen all of a sudden went blank on my Samsung 750 and said “No Signal”. Basically what this means is that when a digital cable loses it’s integrity you lose your signal. The TV still recognized that there was a cable plugged in but was not receiving any signal from my DVR. I have thrown this away and am buying a better cable. It’s not worth the hassle to repackage, go to the post office, pay for shipping and wait for a new one. I bought 3 of these and they all now reide in the bottom of my trash can! Please don’t believe the hype and buy something else. $3 is not worth ruining your TV by getting an annoying flicker and signal loss. Spend $20 and buy a cable that you won’t have to worry about.

Yes.. Casio s G Men

First off, let me start by saying I do 100% believe these are actual conversations with God. I don’t think he made it up to try to persuade people of anything, I do believe these are the words of God. I can’t wait to read the second one. It’s interesting for someone like me to rad q book like this becuase it gave me more of an idea what/who God is really about. I’m understanding a lot more how s/he works and operates and this along with others ( books and personal experiences) had made me 100% a believer again.
