Maybe this story has simply become dated over the years because it didn’t have the impact on me that I expected. This certainly isn’t on the level of Huck Finn, To Kill A Mockingbird, Life of Pi, nor even The Tale Of Depereaux, but it is different than anything else I’ve read. Perhaps the appeal of this book is that it’s written from the perspective of a teenager, in stylized teenaged writing, about teenaged issues. This could be one of those books that appeals more to a specific audience of those going through puberty than it does to the general reader. Still, Holden Caulfield seems like more of a whiner than a cynical adolescent to me.
Reading this book is like being stuck in an elevator with a sixteen year old boy for the duration. It might make for a good psychological study of that particular insanity that teenagers go through as their brains develop in the presence of an overdose of hormones, but as a story it lacks a plot. This is about a kid wandering aimlessly through his life, such as it is, both literally and existentially. It could theoretically give aid and comfort to those teens in a similar situation, but I can’t imagine it helping me much when I was that age. The main character is supposed to be a young radical, smoking and drinking despite being underage, but it all seems much too tame in these modern times.
I suppose that the moral of the story is supposed to be that everyone undergoes these psychotic teenage episodes, even the preppies. However, this point is made in a monotonous, rather repetitious and boring manner as our young angster wanders about NYC looking to rutt, having just been kicked out of yet another fancy boarding school. If the rich kids have these same problems then maybe we should all stop feeling sorry for ourselves and think about poor Richard Cory. It’s all just a little too ham-handed for me and it really bothers those kids who really were cool and all to have to listen to those who just think they are. Sometim

I love this watch. I am sure I will like it even more when I actually read the instructions and play with all the functions, but for now it does the job perfectly. It is easy to use while running or biking and the pace, distance, and mapping seem pretty accurate. The light doesn’t stay on long, but that’s okay. Also, I forget to turn it off and it dies pretty quickly, but as long as I keep it charging when I’m not using it, it’s no problem. I agree with the other reviews that the elevation gain may not be very accurate, but not a big deal for me. It is pretty big, but you can guess that from the picture. Now, if only I could swim with it on…

The concept of this book is interesting. The substance is scary, from a biblical viewpoint.
If you want answers from God – read your BIBLE. It’s all there.

Why must Coolpix 12 Nikon S4000
I bought this to replace my Canon SD870 IS. Long story short, I’m pretty satisfied with the pictures it takes, when it actually shoots what I’m looking at. I like all the bells and whistles, as well as the 720p video capability. However, when it comes to using the ‘button halfway down’ trick, forget about it. It takes any where from at least 2 seconds to what feels like an eternity to actually snap the picture… when the stupid face frame doesn’t decide to pop up. After which, pressing the button all the way does nothing but make you want to spike the camera into the ground. I understand the nature of point and shoot cameras, but this was seldom an issue with the Canon. I almost NEVER missed the action shot I was going for with my 2 year old. This thing… garbage. I have a collection of test photos that consist of around 70% half-open eye lids.
If you’re looking to take pictures of scenery, or bowls of fruit, I’d recommend this. If you’re looking for something you can keep in your pocket on standby for when the kids are doing something cool, look elsewhere.

I bought this unit in June 06, so I’m on my 3rd year of almost constant summer usage. The unit is a little noisy (about the loudness of some fans set to their highest setting), but that doesn’t really bother me because it cools the room like it is supposed to, and I hate heat more than noise
. This is the first year that I’ve had to empty the tank. It actually leaked a little, but since it wasn’t on a carpet, that was ok. My bad, because it does say to empty it occassionally, and I was just being lazy. The rubber plug was a little confusing at first (I couldn’t tell if I needed pliers to unscrew it, or just my fingers to pull it out), but I finally realized that it was “plug like” (i.e., just needed my fingers to pull it out of the pipe) rather than an “outside cap” type that needed to be unscrewed. The area that it is cooling includes my dining area, living room, and small kitchen. I keep the downstairs bathroom door closed, as well as the doors to the two rooms off of the staircase leading upstairs, so it’s probably cooling about 450 sq feet. I placed a small fan between the dining and living room area to help “push” the cool air into the living room since there is a wall that blocks some of the flow. I bought a second unit for my brother in 07, and it also works well for him.

Anyone with kids knows the rut you get into – i haven’t been able to finish a book in eons. But this one – i just couldn’t/wouldn’t put down. It was such an easy read with heart and actual characters. I felt like i knew each of the main people and could correlate them easily with people i know in real life.
Its a heavy subject dealt with in a delicate and light way ~ but no so light you loose sight of the story.
